The Morphology of Aging and the Skin: Evaluation, Prevention and Protection
Wednesday February 12, 2025 12:30pm - 2:00pm EST
This lecture will present various perspectives on what pro-aging means today.

Dr. Madigan-Fleck will present several of the anatomical and physiological changes that occur to the face skin through age progression, the alterations in skin systems, and the onset of cellular senescence. Many internal and external factors are implicated as contributing to the alterations in facial morphology. These concepts have advanced in recent years to include many synergistic relationships that involve environmental, biological, and metabolic circumstances. Further air pollution, chemicals, irradiation, medications, nutrient deficiencies, immune function, and other considerations in conjunction with or in part, play a role in the aging of the skin, glycation, and cellular senescence. Additional discussion will involve prevention and nutritional support, as well as perspectives for non-invasive approaches for pro-aging management in esthetic care.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Identify the hallmarks and physiological progression of facial morphology
  • Illustrate and Identify the key determinants of facial aging
  • Identify the physiological process and circumstances surrounding glycation
  • Explain the cellular and physiological process of collagen replication
  • Explore pro-aging concepts in the esthetic setting

Chemical peels are popular procedures used to improve the skin's texture, tone, and overall appearance. While chemical peels are generally safe and effective, there is a risk of complications, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones. These complications can range from temporary redness and irritation, to more serious issues such as hyperpigmentation, loss of pigment, 1st and 2nd degree burns, and scarring.

Key concepts covered in this class:
  • How to implement a cautious approach.
  • Challenges and strategies for managing chemical peel complications in individuals with darker skin tones.
  • Peeling agents best suited for various skin types and ethnicities.
By understanding the potential complications and how to address them, both client and practitioners can achieve optimal results while minimizing the risk of adverse effects.
